A Frost route with three Arcane points for early wand and channeling support. This is a deterministic, rules-validated starting route for levels 10–60; every point is tied to the current official snapshot. It is a starting allocation, not a universal ranking of mage builds.

Why this Frost leveling route is a starting point

The generator fills Frost before spending the final three points in Arcane. Its scoring values control, Ice Lance and survivability, and the route reaches Ice Barrier through Cold Snap. The three Arcane points are a generated spillover, not a mandatory Frost package.

  • Frost Warding 2, Precision 3 and Ice Shards 5 form the opening package.
  • Ice Lance 1 gates Fingers of Frost, while Cold Snap 1 gates Ice Barrier.
  • The last three points go to Wand Specialization 2 and Improved Channeling 1 in Arcane.

Each route is generated from the current snapshot by scoring legal next picks for damage, attack speed, resource flow and sustain, filling the primary tree first, then spending any remaining points in the other trees. Every point passes the same row-gate and prerequisite checks as the calculator. The result is a reproducible starting route, not a tier-list or simulation result.

Leveling route: levels 10–20 (points 1–11)

This opening band contains the first legal picks the deterministic scorer selects. Reordering within the same row is possible only when the resulting point sequence still satisfies every prerequisite.

Order Level Talent Ranks Effect
1 10 Frost Warding 2/2 (2 pts) Increases the Armor and resistances granted by your Frost Armor and Ice Armor spells by 30%, gives your Frost Ward a 20% chance to negate the warded damage spell, and increases the amount absorbed by your Ice Barrier and Frost Ward by 20%.
3 12 Precision 3/3 (3 pts) Improves your chance to hit with all spells by 6%.
6 15 Ice Shards 5/5 (5 pts) Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your Frost spells by 100%.
11 20 Ice Lance 1/1 (1 pt) Deals 26 to 30 Frost damage to an enemy target. Deals 300% increased damage to Frozen targets.

Leveling route: levels 20–40 (points 12–31)

This middle band spends the points that unlock deeper rows and the route’s multi-rank talents. The exact level shown is the level at which that point becomes available.

Order Level Talent Ranks Effect
12 21 Improved Blizzard 3/3 (3 pts) Adds a Chill effect to your Blizzard spell. This effect lowers the target's movement speed by 40% for 1.5 sec.
15 24 Improved Frostbolt 1/5 (1 pt) Reduces the casting time of your Frostbolt spell by 0.1 sec.
16 25 Shatter 3/3 (3 pts) Increases the critical strike chance of all your spells against Frozen targets by 50%.
19 28 Improved Frostbolt 3/5 (2 pts) Reduces the casting time of your Frostbolt spell by 0.3 sec.
21 30 Improved Cone of Cold 3/3 (3 pts) Increases the damage dealt by your Cone of Cold spell by 35%.

29 38 Improved Frost Nova 2/2 (2 pts) Reduces the cooldown of your Frost Nova spell by 4 sec.
31 40 Permafrost 1/3 (1 pt) Increases the duration of your Chill effects by 11% and reduces the target's speed by an additional 3%.

Leveling route: levels 40–60 (points 32–51)

The final band finishes the primary tree, then assigns any remaining legal points. Those off-tree points are visible in the split above; they are not required for a different role or weapon plan.

Order Level Talent Ranks Effect
32 41 Permafrost 3/3 (2 pts) Increases the duration of your Chill effects by 33% and reduces the target's speed by an additional 10%.
34 43 Arctic Reach 2/2 (2 pts) Increases the range of your Frostbolt, Ice Lance, and Blizzard spells and the radius of your Frost Nova and Cone of Cold spells by 20%.
36 45 Fingers of Frost 2/2 (2 pts) Gives your Chill effects a 15% chance to grant you the Fingers of Frost effect, which treats your next 2 spells cast as if the target were Frozen. Lasts 15 sec.
38 47 Winter's Chill 5/5 (5 pts) Gives your Frostbolt and Fingers of Frost empowered Ice Lance spells a 100% chance to apply Winter's Chill, increasing the target's damage taken from your next Cone of Cold by 20% and it gains an additional 7% of your spell damage, stacking up to 5 times.
43 52 Frost Channeling 3/3 (3 pts) Reduces the mana cost of your Frost spells by 15% and reduces the threat caused by your Frost spells by 30%.
46 55 Cold Snap 1/1 (1 pt) Finishes the remaining cooldown on all your other Frost spells.

48 57 Ice Block 1/1 (1 pt) You become encased in a block of ice, protecting you from all physical attacks and spells for 10 sec, but during that time you cannot attack, move, or cast spells.
49 58 Wand Specialization 2/2 (2 pts) Increases your damage with Wands by 25%.
51 60 Improved Channeling 1/5 (1 pt) Gives your Arcane Missiles spell a 20% chance and your Arcane Blast and Arcane Wrath spells a 14% chance to not lose casting time when you take damage.

When to deviate from this Mage leveling route

  • Use Fire for Pyroblast and Heating Up. Pyroblast 1 gates Heating Up, and Critical Mass 3 gates Combustion.
  • Use Arcane for Arcane Blast and Intellect scaling. Arcane Blast 1 gates Arcane Wrath and Presence of Mind 1 gates Arcane Power.
  • If your Frost plan does not use Freeze or Ice Lance, re-evaluate the control points instead of copying the route by level alone.

After changing a point, verify the result in the calculator. Removing a prerequisite can invalidate every dependent talent, and the 51-point budget leaves no room for a free substitution without removing another point.

Mage leveling route FAQ

How is this Mage leveling route validated?

Every one of the 51 points is generated against snapshot snap-4c0dd5427276 and checked by the same rules engine as the calculator: the 51-point budget, row gates, direct prerequisites and maximum ranks all pass. The official v9_ Build Code and the site share link are both produced from that validated allocation.

When does Mage receive each talent point?

The first talent point arrives at level 10, and one more arrives per level through level 60. More than one point can be shown on a level row because every level grants a point; the table records both the point order and the character level.

When should I change this Frost leveling route?

Use Fire for Pyroblast and Heating Up. Pyroblast 1 gates Heating Up, and Critical Mass 3 gates Combustion. Use Arcane for Arcane Blast and Intellect scaling. Arcane Blast 1 gates Arcane Wrath and Presence of Mind 1 gates Arcane Power. If your Frost plan does not use Freeze or Ice Lance, re-evaluate the control points instead of copying the route by level alone. The route is a legal starting point, not a claim that it is the only useful allocation for every player.
